Cancer Patient Massage If you or a loved one are facing the many challenges of cancer, massage can be your ally. For patient and caregiver alike, taking the time for a nurturing massage can be truly worthwhile, even in a schedule crowded with appointments. Caring, professional touch can ease pain, relax mind and body, and restore your body's own healing resources. Relieving your discomfort Many people find that when medication doesn't completely ease their pain, massage helps. Massage can: ease muscle tension help eliminate irritating toxins decrease achiness caused by forced inactivity bolsters the immune system helps with circulation and restores energy enhances a patient’s body awareness and allows them to direct energy toward healing
Reduces: The American Cancer Society views massage as an important complementary therapy for cancer patients. I will adapt the massage to your needs and requests, fashioning a hands-on session that relaxes, energizes and reduces pain and discomfort. Everyone is different, and depending on where you are in your treatment, your needs may differ from one session to the next. Please keep me up-to -date on your treatment in order for me to determine what is appropriate. Massage gives people with cancer a chance to peice their body back together again. For an entire hour they have the same person working with them in a soothing manner, giving them an experience that has a beginning, a middle and end. It allows them to rest, and the hospital is not a restful place. They feel nurtured and loved and soothed. - Gayle MacDonald, author of Medicine Hands:Massage therapy for people with cancer |
